I am interested in automation testing on mobiles: android and IOS.

And what should I use.
As I start researching and this will help me to move in the right direction.

Can we use watir? Do we have any books I can buy and learn?
Or please email me how to start on this.

The documentation is all going to be on Appium's site. I can't vouch for
how accurate it is right now: http://appium.io/slate/en/master/

That SO answer is a little misleading. There are Ruby bindings for Appium,
but they use Selenium, not the other way around. There is no current
solution for using Watir-like syntax.
